Larry Bolton

I Received a Bachelor or Electrical Engineering from the U of M. Went to work for computer pioneer company Univac defense systems as a component engineer. Married my wife Ruth, a computer programmer, in 1968. Had our home built in Burnsville in 1971 and have lived there since.

Ruth became a stay-at-home mom for our two sons. David graduated from Rice University and is a semiconductor process engineer in Austin, Texas. He is married and we recently became grandparents to a grand-daughter, Violet. James recently became a radiology technologist and is still single. He also plays in jazz ensembles as a trombonist.

As a family, we have traveled quite a bit and have visited many of our national parks, mostly in the western states.

I retired in 2006 after 41 years at the same computer company which, after several name changes, had most lately become a division of Lockheed Martin. Ruth also retired from her last job as a teacher’s aid in reading and math.

In retirement, we have made short winter trips to Destin, Florida and Sedona, Arizona.

My outside interests include playing in the Northern Winds Concert Band based in Richfield, Mn, participating in the Lockheed Martin Electronics Club and bowling league, and the Minnesota Valley Photography Club. I also volunteer time as the hardware cataloger for the retiree VIP Club (www.vipclubmn.org) which is trying to recover the history of the worlds first computers developed here in Minnesota at companies such as Electronic Research and Univac. These companies preceded the better known companies such as Control Data and Cray and invented the world’s first computer hard drives. My other hobbies include gardening and converting our old pictures to digital format.

I hope that some of those who have not attended past reunions will at least come to the 50th.
