K. W. "Whitey" HoisethAfter graduation from ALHS Command Sergeant Major Hoiseth entered the army and was sent to Ft. Riley, Kansas. He attended Engineer A.LT. at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then assigned to the 58th Armored Engineer Company in Fulda, Germany. During this assignment, he completed Demolition and Mine Warfare Training, Combat Engineer Non-Commissioned Officers Course, 7t' Army Non-Commissioned Officers Academy and Special Forces Training. In 1965, Command Sergeant Major Hoiseth returned to Ft. Leonard Wood for a short tour as a Drill Sergeant and attended Ranger.Training before being assigned to Vietnam. He returned to Ft. Leonard as a Floating Bridge Instructor. After another tour in Vietnam, it was back to Ft. Leonard Wood. In 1969, Command Sergeant Major Hoiseth was assigned to Korea. In 1971, he attended the Engineer Non-Commissioned Officers Advanced Course at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where he was the distinguished graduated and received a Reserve Commission in the Corps of Engineers. In 1976 he attended the Sergeant Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas. After another tour in Germany, Command Sergeant Major Hoiseth was assigned to Marquette University to complete his MBA. In 1981 he was assigned to Ft. Polk, Louisiana where he retired. His Awards and Decorations in part include the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal Eighth Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal third award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and Special Forces Tab. He is the owner and operator of Cut Rate Liquor and owner of Cut Rate Racing. Command Sergeant Major Hoiseth is very active in many civic and fraternal organizations, such as President of Scottish Rite Masons, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine and Ft. Polk Chapter of the Non-Commissioned Officer Association, Charter Member of Waynesville, Missouri Jaycees, West Central Chapter ABATE of Louisiana, and Chapter Dad for Demolay. In 1977 he was voted one of the 10 most outstanding young men of America. He is a life member of Post 3106 VFW, NCOA, and American Legion. At present he is State President for the Association of the United States Army for the State of Louisiana, Board of Directors for Leonidas Polk Chapter AUSA, Chairman of Military Affairs Committee of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, President of Byrd Regional Hospital Governing Board, 2nd time.
