"Being A Kid In Albert Lea"

Do you remember the neighborhood. What a great time to be a kid. All the kids from about 8-13 would gather every night during the summer just after "SUPPER" and we would play games. Some games you would need daylight, so you would play them first and then it would get to be evening and the more ghostly games would begin. Maybe you can remember a few more things we played or did just to be having fun. Or can add a note to some of them you remember extra well. This was before Draggin' Broadway, Before Senior High, Before Dating, Before Cars, Before the Drive In. Just saying the words may bring back a lot of memories.

Email me with the info and I will put it up here.

"Splits"

Using Jackknives we would throw it with the blade in our fingers and then The guy would have to spread that leg out to where you threw it. Most of the time it was pretty close 'cause it had to stick in the ground to make you spread. Then if you could stick it right between his legs you could go back to where you started with your legs close together..

"Annie-I-Over"

We would holler Annie-I-Over. then we would throw the ball over the house and see if they could catch it on the other side. Of course it had to hit the roof so they had time to see it coming. Then they would run around the house and try to hit us with the ball. (of course it was rubber)

"WAR"

The most famous card game ever invented. I remember sitting over at my neighbors basement and playing WAR with great big stacks of cards. Never winning or losing but getting down pretty far in your deck.

Silhouettes on the Shade

(The Diamonds 1957)

ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut
ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah, hut-hut

Took a walk and passed your house (late last night)
All the shades were pulled and drawn (way down tight)
From within, a dim light cast two silhouettes on the shade
Oh, what a lovely couple they ma-ade

Put his arms around your waist (held you tight)
Kisses I could almost taste (in the night)
Wonder why I'm not the guy *whose silhouette's* on the shade
I couldn't hide the tears in my eye-eyes

Silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes) ty-oh, oh-oh

brief instrumental break

Lost control and rang your bell (I was sore)
Let me in or else I'll beat (down your door)
When two strangers who had been two silhouettes on the shade
Said to my shock "you're on the wrong blo-ock"

Rushed down to your house with wings (on my feet)
Loved you like I never loved (you my sweet)
Vowed that you and I would be two silhouettes on the shade
All of our days, two silhouettes on the sha-ade

Silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes) ty-oh, oh-oh
Silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes) silhouettes (silhouettes), ty-oh, oh-oh

Two silhouettes on the shade
