While in the Air Force was based in Northern FL. Nearest town was Cross City. Met Cathy Nolan, and we were married. In due time, had a boy and then a girl, When I left the Air Force, there were no decent jobs near there, so I went back to Albert Lea and worked in the packing plant. Sent for Cathy--No answer--after about 6 mos. rec'd divorce papers. She just wouldn't come north, and had found someone else. I worked at various jobs in and around Mpls., I took a welding course, and got a job at Roc-Edge--small mnfg. co.That is where I met Mary Lou and we seemed hit it off well. Although she was somewhat older, she had been married young and lost her first husband in an auto accident. She had five children, and 6 grandchildren. Neither my son or my daughter have any kids yet. We were married Dec. 23rd, '66, so still seem to be compatible. Bought a little house in Mpls. but couldn't addto it, and were cramped. Roc-Edge moved out of Mpls. and I finally got a welding job with Commercial Steel, but it was still such a long commute. A fellow welder wanted to come to Alaska to work on the pipe-line,so in '70, we drove the Alcan, [and the pipeline didn't start until 74.] I got a job with Anchorage Refuse, after two or three years, started driving truck, Finally retired on April 1st of this year. We live about 25 miles out of Anchorage proper, on a couple of acres, We have built our own house, have a large lawn, lots of trees, a big vegetable garden and several flower gardens. It keeps us busy. We added a green house addition to the house last year, and have started a garage for this year. /b
